Half a day’s trek from the Lisu Lodge is the much more rustic Lahu Outpost in a Lahu village atop a 1,600 meter mountain. The
house, built in traditional Lahu style by the villagers themselves, provides basic facilities for western guests and a fascinating
experience of hill tribe culture and stunning views. Afterwards you travel in a combination of trekking, elephant riding and white
water rafting to the famous Lisu Lodge.
Day 1 Chiang Mai – Lahu Village (L, D)
Pick up from hotel in Chiang Mai for 1.5 hours drive to the area of Pha Mieng, then walk through orchards and
down a steep jungle path to the waterfall. Stop for a rest and enjoy the scenery then continue to walk (15
min) to a Lahu village. Here, you will get to meet the local hill-tribes and maybe teach them a word or two of
English. Continue to walk along jungle trails to the remote village of Hmong Pha Mieng (1.5 hrs). Meet the
inhabitants of this small hill tribe in a jungle clearing and enjoy a picnic lunch amongst the trees. After
lunch, continue up to the top of the mountain (1.5 hrs), where the Red Lahu Village of Pha Daeng is located
and enjoy a short break or maybe a cup of Chinese tea with a local village family. Continue walking for
another hour along a mountain ridge to the Lahu village of Kup Kap. The views from this village are
spectacular over- looking south to the valley far below or west to the mountain peaks stretching towards
Burma. Enjoy the friendly attention of the curious Lahu villagers. Tonight, you will overnight at Lahu Outpost.
Day 2 Lahu Village – Lisu Lodge (B, L, D)
After breakfast in Lahu village, one hour walk downhill to Huay Sadhan waterfall, take a short break and
continue on to an hour walk along the stream and nature trail to Mae Taeng elephant camp, here you will be
treated for an hour elephant ride. A picnic lunch by the river will be prepared following by a 45 minutes white
water rafting down the river (grade 1 to 2), the river will take you to a pretty Thai village of Muang Gurt where
you will be met by our driver to transfer you to the Akha village of Huay Pong. Upon arrival, enjoy a cup of tea
or chat with the shaman (local witch doctor). Then, continue to drive the award winning Lisu Lodge arriving
late afternoon. Enjoy Lisu’s activities such as embroidering and organic gardening. Dinner will be served at
Lodge. During dinner, enjoy Lisu music from the Lisu banjo players and dancing by local villagers.
Day 3 Lisu Lodge – Chiang Mai (B, L)
Breakfast at the lodge and then enjoy the “Lisu Lodge Experience”; starting from Ton Lung temple you will be
guided by a local Lisu guide to visit the herbal garden and the Lisu village. During the tour you stop for a cup
of tea at the shaman’s house with the introduction to traditional medicine (Local guide will be a translator
accompanying the group through all activities). Lunch will be served at the Lisu Lodge. In the afternoon enjoy
an ox-cart ride through farmlands and orchards to the Thai village of Baan Pang Mai Daeng (about 1hour).
Continue by a local truck (songtaew) to Chiang Mai.
Tour Code: 2NCMMT Trekking at Mae Taeng Area (3 Days / 2 Nights)
DAY 1 Depart early in the morning by truck to Mae Malai local market. This will be an interesting experience
to see the lifestyle of the local people. Our guide will purchase some fresh food for your lunch today. You
may also want to get some last minute supplies before venturing out to the hilltribes. Continue your journey
to a waterfall area to cool off or to swim for a while before having a picnic lunch. Then proceed on by car to a
Shan village. Explore the village and observe the daily routine of the people or talk to them to learn more
about their lifestyle. Then trek fro another 3 hours to the Lisu village where you will spend the night. Your
guide, with the help of the villagers will prepare dinner for you in the village. After dinner you may want to
join the activities of the local people or just relax and rest your tired feet. (L,D)
DAY 2 In the morning, breakfast will be prepared by your guide and the local villagers. Observe the
villagers going about their daily chores farm work. Pack your things and bid farewell to your host as you begin
to trek another 2 hours to an elephant camp. Get to know more about the task that elephants can help with
in the jungle, the way the elephants are trained before having lunch at the camp. After lunch, take an
elephant ride to the next village by the river. Enjoy swimming on the river before coming to help prepare
dinner. Overnight at the village. (B,L,D)
DAY 3 After breakfast in the morning, it will be a full day traveling on the river. We begin with a short trip
to a Karen village. You will be able to observe their daily work in the fields as they go about tending to their
plantation. Then it is onto a Lahu village to have lunch, and take some time to explore the village and learn
more about the basic differences between each hill tribe. Afterwards, get back on the raft and continue to go
along the river back to the Shan village where the vehicle will be waiting to transport you back to your hotel
in town. (B)

Day 1 Chiang Mai – Chiangdao Distict – Ang Khang Resort
Depart Chiangmai by car towards Chiangdao district. En-route visit a few of the hill tribe villages scattered
along the way. Lunch will be taken at Chiangdao before driving up to the Ang Khang Royal Project area. This
drive is along a very steep and winding road. The scenery along the road is quite spectacular as you pass by
forest and unspoiled villages.
The Ang Khang Resort is located 1400m above sea level and is part of the Royal Ang Khang Station Project
under the auspices of His Majesty - King Bhumipol. Enjoy the nature, cool weather and delicious Thai cuisine
at the Resort. For your comfort and stay, overnight at Amari Ang Khang Resort.
Day 2 Royal Projects – Mae Kok River Boat Trip – Doi Tung – Chiangsaen – Golden Triangle
Visit the interesting Royal Project and see the various things that the King has done to aid the people to shift
them from growing drugs to growing cash crop. There are fruit plantation, vegetable fields and other flowers
gardens. Take a slow drive around the various hilltribes to look at the different lifestyle and traditional
dresses of the tribal people. You will also be rewarded with a beautiful scenery of the hill down below from
the viewing point.
Check out of the resort and proceed downhill to Thaton in the Chiangdao district for lunch. Then take a long-
tailed speed boat along the Mae Kok River to enjoy the scenery along the river. Continue by car to the Mae
Salong Chinese settlement after a 2 hour boat ride. You will enjoy a quick history lesson talking to the older
generation in this settlement.
Continue to Doi Tung and then to Chiangsaen district to take another boat trip along the Mae Khong River.
This river leads to the Golden Triangle where the border of three countries - Thailand, Myanmar and Laos
meet. This river also forms the border for Thailand and Laos. Afterwards, check-in to Anantara Resort at
Golden Triangle.
Day 3 Golden Triangle – Chiang Mai
Morning is free for your own activities. You may want to rest and relax in the comfortable atmosphere of the
hotel with the view of the Mae Khong River, or take a trip to Mae Sai - the commercial border town between
Thailand and Myanmar. Return to Chiangmai by car in the afternoon.

Day 2 Mae Ping Home – Tours around Chiangmai – Mae Ping Home (B,L,D)
Breakfast will be served at Mae Ping Home. Morning visit the wooden area in the north of the City to see
elephants at work at Mae Sa Elephant Camp. Observe elephants taking their morning bath in the running
streams before starting their daily training and working. The tour will continue to Queen Sirikit Botanical
Garden, which was established in 1992 in order to gather, conserve and strengthen studies and research on
Thai plants and an extensive library in the main building. More than 700 species of plants with the emphasis
on Thai flora have been collected in the glasshouses. Then continue to visit large Orchid Nursery for lunch
and sightseeing following a visit to the Sankampaeng district. Here, there are ranges to shops such as Thai
Silk and cotton looms, Bo-Sang village where the paper and umbrella are made, the Celadon kilns, with its
exquisite, traditional high fired stoneware, lacquer ware, teakwood carving, jewelry, and silverware factories.

Day 2 Chiang Rai - Golden Triangle
Breakfast will be served at the hotel following a visit to Doi Tung Hill tribe Project under the King’s mother
designation. The tour will continue to Chiangsaen, there you will visit the museum, Wat Pah Sak following a
boat trip along Mekong River to the border of Thailand, Laos and Burma. At the Golden Triangle, visit an
opium museum and lunch will be served there. For your comfort and stay, overnight at Anantara Golden

Day 3 Golden Triangle - Chiang Mai
Enjoy a buffet style breakfast at the hotel and take the morning free at leisure. In the afternoon, transfer by
land back to Chiang Mai.

Take an elephant ride around the area and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. The tour will take you back to
Mae Hong Son with an en-route visit to Wat Phya That Doi Kong Mu. Dinner will be serviced and overnight at
Tara Mae Hong Son Hotel.
Day 3 Golden Triangle - Chiang Mai
Enjoy a buffet style breakfast at the hotel and take the morning free at leisure until your departure transfer
to the airport for flight to Chiang Mai.
